Hey, friends!
I was thinking about today’s post and realized that I’d love two things.
1.) To hear from you!! I seem to do most of the talking here on the blog (hmm, I wonder why…), but I love good conversations in the comment section. Seriously…interacting with you all is my favorite part about sharing what I write.
2.) To give a blog friend a copy of This Will Not Last! (It releases in seven days, guys!!!)
So we’re going to combine those two things today.:)
If you’d love to have your very own signed copy of This Will Not Last sent to your door, hop into the comment section and share your answer to one (or some or all!) of the following questions. Each answered question is an entry!
- What is one of the best things that ever happened to you?
- When you were a child, what was your dream job?
- What advice would you give to your fifteen-year-old self?
- What is one thing on your bucket list?
- What is your favorite part about this blog?
I’ll randomly select a winner on Friday, April 1st and announce the winner then.
I can’t wait to hear your answers…and send one of you a copy of This Will Not Last!
❤ Laurel
I would probably tell my fifteen year old self to be creative, build more close friendships, and enjoy life to the fullest with different hobbies and adventures as a teen with more free time than I’ll ever have again. I thought I was always busy when I just didn’t make time to be a kid, and acted too mature for my age being more comfortable around adults than other teens. My anxiety made me so overwhelmed constantly, and I would give myself the advice not to be burdened by my need for control or getting stuck in my head too much, but to let my emotions out in a heathy way and talk to a loved one so that I could be there for others and love life.

Advise for my 15 yr old self: keep dreaming big and lean into God. Your friends, or family, or clothes or social media don’t define you. God does. Love big and don’t be so shy, step out and make friends!!
Bucket list: travel the world. Publish a book. (I did 2 lol cuz imma rebel sometimes)
Dream job as a child: a wife and mama. (Legit all that I remember wanting to do when I was little)
Fav thing about blog: idk cuz this is my first time on here, but I lovvve your insta. You have such a sweet heart🤍

What is one of the best things that ever happened to you?
I got to see Anastasia the Broadway musical tour and meet the cast. And gave actress who played Anastasia my book as gift.
When you were a child, what was your dream job?
First wanted to work for animation, but that dream job faded and wanted to be an author.
What advice would you give to your fifteen-year-old self?
Don’t revise immediately after write first draft. Let it rest and second always back up a document. Or else regret for deleting a story you work too hard.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
See my book in library, bookstore (someday) and have book in subscription book box.
What is your favorite part about this blog?
I like to do guest blog and interview writers and authors on their writing journey to become an author.

Wait wait wait WHAT? ANASTASIA!?!?! That is the coolest. I’ve never seen the musical, but I love the soundtrack so. much.
I loved reading all of your answers…and that advice on the first draft is so solid. Thanks so much for sharing, Havelah! ❤

Woohooo! Wow, Laurel, what a great idea!! (By the way, I WILL be making that post for you!! I just have to get it ready for posting!! XD) I do believe I will answer some questions! *cracks knuckles*
One of the best things that ever happened to me, was my family’s encouragement to me to read through the whole Bible. It totally changed my faith life and I grew so much!!
I had so many dream job ideas when I was younger! One of them was to be a fashion designer (which I still think is a cool job!)
My fifteen-year-old self thought she was mature, but she still had a lot to learn! Looking back, I believe everything I did and experienced had a purpose, so in both the sad and happy times, I think I would remind my past self that everything is an opportunity to grow, even the hard times, and that refinement, though hard, is so so worth it.
Probably the most fun and daring thing on my bucket list is to go surfing someday! I’ve never gone but I so want to! 😆
And finallyyy … my favorite part about this blog is YOU, and how you see the beauty in the brokenness and express it so that WE can see it too. You seem so real and relatable, plus you write beautifully, plus you have a unique perspective on life … I love seeing every new post! You go, Laurel! 🤗

I loved reading your answers, Makayla! Yes…reading through the Bible is one of the best things I ever did. It made me see it in a cohesive way I’d never really understood before. I love the reminder to self…so very true! And surfing sounds like quite the adventure!! I don’t know if I’d be brave enough.XD
Aww, I’m so glad. Thank you.:) ❤

Agh, I’m so glad! A bunch of randomness in my answers would probably sound quite entertaining! 😝 That’s so great you’ve read through the whole Bible too! I think it isn’t often an emphasized point in the faith, but it is such an important part of growing! 🤗

When you were a child, what was your dream job?
A baker. At McDonalds. It didn’t make much sense.
What advice would you give to your fifteen-year-old self?
Get off your duff and do stuff while you’re still a kid. You don’t have that much time.

To live in a van and travel around the country!

1. One of the best things that has ever happened to me…moving back to my home state and meeting a man who has come to be rather important to me 🙂 A completely new and scary experience, but one that has been such a blessing.
2. Dream job. Um, rancher, ballerina, mother, gymnast, show jumper (anything with horses), or a vet…can you tell I was conflicted?? 🙂
3. I would tell my 15-year old self to step out of my comfort zone more. And to stop overthinking everything. You’ll survive and in the end it will be fun. And really the whole world is not paying that much attention to your awkwardness 😂🤦🏼♀️

Oh, this is so wonderful, Rachel! Haha, I had/have the same conflicted dream jobs. And cheers to the world’s blissful ignorance of awkwardness! XD

Laurel, my favorite part about this blog is reading your wonderful poetry. Actually I have two favorite things–your poetry and being able to know you and to see what a beautiful young woman you have grown into! (Maybe I’m a bit prejudiced, beings you are my grand daughter and all!) I know and you know that you shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition but it sounds so awkward to reword it.

Oh, thank you so much, Grandma…I really appreciate it. Poetry must run in the family!:) I love reading your poems, too. ❤
Haha, I'm with you in the preposition struggle!

Jesus saving me!
When you were a child, what was your dream job?
Well, I consider myself a child still, but I used to want to be a horse trainer, a dentist, and a social worker.
What advice would you give to your fifteen-year-old self?
A year ago I would have told myself that God’s plans aren’t based on my works. I can’t change His will by messing up or “performing.” His will is established for my life!
What is one thing on your bucket list?
Go on a missions trip!
What is your favorite part about this blog?
When you share poems from your heart! I also love the monthly recaps…I can’t remember what you call them.

Aww, I loved reading this, Grace!! Thank you so much for sharing. What you said about God’s plans not being based on our works…so very true. Isn’t that one of the most comforting and amazing things in the world? Even when we feel like we’ve messed up He can turn it around and bring beauty from ashes.<3

Ahh, what a wonderful idea! I’ll answer a few 🙂
What is one of the best things that ever happened to you?
Going on a mission trip! Every time I’ve been on a mission trip, especially the ones to Nicaragua, I’ve loved it so much and I believe part of the reason I am the person I am is what God did in me on mission trips!
When you were a child, what was your dream job?
Ahh, I had sooo many, but firefighter, vet, architect, pilot, and, more recently, missionary.
What advice would you give to your fifteen-year-old self?
Keep your eyes on Jesus! Keep Him as your first love and don’t find your identity in the love of others – that will eventually fail. Save yourself pain and temptation and fix your eyes on Him.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
To travel the world for mission work! To so many places, including China, Guatemala, and Myanmar.
What is your favorite part about this blog?
Your heart in sharing your raw experiences 🙂

To be an author or a ballerina or a chef or a horseback rider;) those were the main ones XD
What advice would you give to your fifteen-year-old self?
To not worry so much about the future or if I was “doing enough” to prepare for it, but to just work hard at the things I really wanted to pursue!

To travel to Germany one day.
