winter’s end giveaway

Hello, friends!

I’ve been wanting to do a giveaway for a while now, and thought that late February would be a good time to do so for two reasons:

1.) After Valentine’s Day, there just aren’t that many fun things to be celebrating! The weather is nasty, spirits tend to be low…of course a good book or two would help.;)

2.) The books I’d like to share with you would make good late winter/early spring reads, as they’re written for those who are struggling to find joy, hope, and beauty in their current life circumstances.

I’d like to send a book (and maybe even a handwritten poetry card??) to two of you!

One person will receive a copy of Ruth Chou Simon’s Now and Not Yet. Goodness, I loved this book. I think you will, too.

Another person will receive a copy of yours truly’s book of poetry: Beauty Even Here. I’ve gabbed about this one a lot already, but looking through it the other day I remembered that there are a few poems in here that make it perfect for Lent and Holy Week! So there you go.

  1. Alright, I’m definitely excited for a giveaway! Count me in! 🙂 I do already have a copy of your book “Beauty Even Here”, but I’d like to give it to a friend, so here’s to winning! XD

    Among the gloomy, cold winter days, I enjoy taking advantage of any sunshine that may come out. Some days are really sunny, so I like to take walks or just be out in the sun as long as the cold allows. 🙂 Then on the less cheerful days, I can remember that bit of sun and also look forward to when it will come again soon!

    And yes, I am subscribed to your newsletter, and I love reading what you put out! Thank you so much, Laurel!! Keep it up 🙂

    My favorite ways to pass the dreary days are to cozy up with a good book (Emma M. Lion has been bringing me a lot of joy lately), enjoying hot tea and shortbread cookies, and having long chats with friends!

    A Bible verse that gives me hope is “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27‬:‭13‬ ‭because I often focus on the joy we will have in heaven (a huge comfort and encouragement), but forget that God is still good right now. Even with as broken as the world is, we can still see God’s love towards us.

  7. This is a beautiful reason to have a giveaway, Friend. Poetry and spring are two good things. 😉

    I’m learning to see beauty in the dreary days… not just when they end. 🤭 Perhaps it’s how God is at work in the ashen skies and cold temperatures, reminding trees to not bud too early or keeping the world from being overwhelmed by bugs, but either way, He has purposes… I want to joy in His knowing, not “survive” through the days until spring (although we love spring!). 😊💛

    May we thrive, abiding in Christ, whatever the day!

Laure dear, What I like to do to get through gloomy days is have grandkids (big or little or in-between) come over to do some baking, whether it would be squishy cinnamonn rolls or double chocolate banana muffins or whatever! Quilting is another wonderful thing to do, also reading or writing limericks!

  11. This is beautiful! I’ve read Beauty Even Here and fell in love with the honest beauty of life. Can’t wait to see what’s next! If looking for joy in a muddy season I recommend baking a pie with your friend. With pie and friendship life is simply sweeter. 🙂
